Robotic Enclosure Prototype

A robotics startup needed a presentable, functional shell for its service-robot prototype — curved panels, service hatches and internal cable routing, iterated in days rather than months.

Overview

A shell that works as good as it looks

The enclosure called for six formed shell panels plus hatches and sensor windows — pieces light enough for the mobile base yet rigid enough to keep seams aligned in daily demos.

We printed the set in carbon-filled PETG, orienting panels so layer lines followed the curvature instead of fighting it. Three shell revisions were printed, fitted and refined inside two weeks.

Challenge & Approach

Curves, hatches, clean seams

  • Split-line planning kept visible faces free of seam marks and supports.
  • Heat-set threaded inserts added post-print for repeatable hatch fastening.
  • Vent and cable paths were reworked twice after the client's motion trials.
